As soon as the engine of the Mazda MX5 NC (2005 - 2015) is running, oil must reach the bearings and other lubrication points. The oil pump draws oil from the sump and pressurises the lubrication circuit. The sump and oil filter housing gasket in this category are part of that system. The oil filter also lies in the oil flow path. An oil pressure problem calls for checking the whole circuit, rather than the pump alone.
