The trunk space of a Mazda MX5 NA (1989 - 1997) is compact, so luggage is sometimes carried outside the car. A luggage rack is mounted on the trunk lid so that bags can be securely fastened. This mounting on the rear of the car creates additional space without modifications to the interior.
