The mid-muffler of a Mazda MX-5 NA (1989–1997) is located between the exhaust manifold and the rear muffler and provides initial damping of the exhaust noise. In addition, this muffler helps guide the exhaust gases through the system. The gas flow passing through here originates from the exhaust manifold, which is mounted directly on the car’s engine —where the exhaust gases are produced.
