The ABS-system in a Mazda MX-5 NA (1989–1997) prevents the wheels from locking up during hard braking. Sensors measure the rotational speed of the wheels and intervene when a wheel threatens to lock up. This keeps the car controllable during braking, with the system working in conjunction with the brake pressure built up by the master cylinder to regulate braking force.
