The ignition system of a Mazda MX5 NA (1989 - 1997) allows the air-fuel mixture to ignite in the cylinders. Ignition coils build up a high voltage that is fed to the spark plugs via spark plug wires. The moment the spark occurs, combustion begins in the engine. The timing of this is controlled by the car's electronic engine management system.
