Belts and drives in a Mazda MX-5 NA (1989–1997) transmit the engine’s rotational motion to various auxiliary systems. This drives components such as the alternator and air conditioning compressor as long as the engine is running. This drive is located at the front of the engine block and directly controls the operation of the alternator and other driven systems at the front of the car, which would not function without the belt drive.
