On the floor of an MX5 NB (1998–2000), the floor mats are exposed daily to sand, moisture, small stones, and wear and tear from getting in and out of the car. Floor mats absorb most of this wear and tear and do a better job of keeping dirt away from the carpet, mounting points, and seams in the floor panel. Especially in cars that are frequently driven with the top down, you’ll notice that dust and moisture find their way inside more easily. When the finish on the floor and interior panels also remains in good condition, the interior immediately feels better maintained.
