On the nose of an MX5 NB (1998 - 2000), the engine cover forms a large defining surface in the lines of the front end. Under this panel, heat from the engine compartment meets vibration, airflow and daily stresses when opening and closing. As a result, it is not just about looks, but also about fit, closure and strength around hinge and lock points. When the surrounding body parts at the front are also neatly aligned, the front end looks calmer and tighter.
