An MX5 NB (1998–2000) features dozens of switches and relays that control and protect electrical functions. From lighting and ventilation to power windows and windshield wipers: virtually every system uses a combination of controls and electrical circuitry. Relays handle the heavy current load, while switches provide control from the cabin. In older cars, malfunctions are often caused by worn contacts, oxidation, or internal wear. When the wiring and connections between the various systems remain in good condition, electrical components function more reliably.
