Rubber mounts and mounting hardware hold the exhaust system of an MX5 NB (1998–2000) in place and absorb movement and vibrations. Worn exhaust mounts can cause resonance or a thumping noise that is clearly audible in the trunk. Proper mounting also prevents the exhaust from hanging crookedly or rubbing against the body.
