Starter motor

On the engine and gearbox side, the starter motor of an MX5 NB (1998 - 2000) ensures that the engine revs enough to start on its own. As soon as the key is turned, a gear briefly engages the flywheel, after which the crankshaft is set in motion and the combustion process can start. In the process, a lot of power is demanded from the electrical system in a short period of time. On older cars, problems often arise from wear of carbon brushes, bearings or the engagement mechanism. If the battery and power supply also remain in good condition during starting, the starter motor can perform its job reliably.
