Starter Motor

Located on the engine and transmission side, the starter motor of an MX5 NB (1998–2000) ensures that the engine reaches sufficient RPM to start on its own. As soon as the key is turned, a gear briefly engages the flywheel, causing the crankshaft to rotate and allowing the combustion process to begin. This places a high demand on the electrical system for a brief period. In older cars, problems often arise due to wear on the carbon brushes, bearings, or the engagement mechanism. As long as the battery and power supply remain in good condition during starting, the starter motor can perform its job reliably.
