Located at the front of the engine block, the water pump in an MX5 NB (1998–2000) continuously circulates coolant through the engine, radiator, and heater. This dissipates heat and keeps the operating temperature stable, even under heavy load. Since the water pump is driven by the timing belt and tensioners that control the engine’s timing, these components are often replaced at the same time. That is precisely why preventive maintenance on this part of the engine is so important.
