In the cooling system of an MX5 NB (1998–2000), gaskets ensure that coolant flows only where it is intended to. They seal the mating surfaces between, for example, thermostat housings, water pumps, and other cooling components, while at the same time having to withstand temperature fluctuations and pressure buildup. It is precisely during maintenance of hose kits—where connections are regularly disconnected and reassembled—that the importance of a proper seal becomes evident in preventing leaks and air ingress into the system.
