The oil filter on the MX5 NB (1998–2000) is located on the engine block and filters wear particles, carbon deposits, and other contaminants from the circulating engine oil. During daily use, these contaminants are constantly released into the lubrication system. In cars where maintenance has been delayed, you often see that contaminated oil affects the operation of the oil pump and the lubrication of bearings, camshafts, and other rotating parts. Replacing the oil in a timely manner prevents contaminants from spreading further throughout the engine block.
