The ABS system in an MX5 NB (1998–2000) prevents the wheels from locking up during hard braking by monitoring the rotational speed of each wheel. The ABS-sensors are located near the wheel bearings and wheel hubs, where the rotational speed of the wheels is measured. Contamination or damage to a sensor or sensor ring can cause the ABS to malfunction.
