On the exterior of an MX5 NB (1998–2000), the antenna may seem like a simple part, but there is more technology behind good radio-reception than is often realized. Radio signals are picked up via the antenna mast, wiring, and connections and transmitted to the audio system in the cabin. On older cars, you often see that corrosion, damaged cables, or wear and tear in moving parts gradually affect reception. As long as the wiring and connections of the audio system remain in good condition, the signal will stay as interference-free as possible.
