Inside the engine block of an MX5 NB (1998–2000), the oil pump builds up the pressure that forces oil through the internal lubrication channels. This ensures that the crankshaft bearings, connecting rods, and cylinder head, among other components, are continuously supplied with oil.The camshafts and valves at the top of the engine also depend on this constant oil supply; insufficient oil pressure or contaminated oil can sometimes first become apparent there. A properly functioning oil pump is therefore essential for the lubrication of the entire engine block.
