The fuel filter on the MX5 NB (1998–2000) is located between the fuel tank and the fuel injection system. Dirt particles, rust, and other contaminants are filtered out of the fuel here before it reaches the injectors. In practice, problems with fuel pressure and fuel delivery cannot always be traced back to the filter itself. On older cars, it’s common to see that contamination leads to hesitation during acceleration or rough engine idling.
