Gaskets and seals around the engine and transmission of an MX5 NB (1998–2000) prevent leaks of oil and other fluids.The shift lever and the seals that connect it to the top of the transmission also deserve attention if oil stains are visible there. Due to age and heat, seals can harden or start to leak, often first visible as a greasy residue.
